Holiday Accommodations at Yosemite National Park
Your two options when planning for a vacation at Yosemite National Park is getting accommodations inside the park itself, or looking for one outside the park in the surrounding community. It is good to know that the company that handles the housing reservations in the park, takes reservations months in advance, so if you want to go to Yosemite for your summer trip just a few weeks before, then you might have limited options to accommodations inside the park. If you want to make sure that you will have accommodations inside the park, then you should make your reservations way advance. A year in advance is not too early to make reservations for the summer holiday period.
Inside, your choices include 4-star hotels, the Ahwahnee Hotel and campsites in the backcountry. If you prefer to stay in a campsite in the backcountry with your sleeping bag, then a wilderness permit is required from a ranger station. If you have other arrangements to make in the park, then you should go to the company that handles the housing reservations to make them. Aside from the Ahwahnee hotel, you can stay in the Yosemite Lodge at the Falls, which is in the Yosemite Valley. Camp Curry is the place to stay if you want to dwell in tents or cabins. Another campsite you can stay in is the Housekeeping Camp which is along the Merced River, and there are also other campsite nearby.
Outside the Yosemite valley but still inside the park, in Tuolomne Meadows, you can find the Wawona Hotel, Tuolomne Meadows Lodge, and the White Wolf Lodge. You can also stay in the high-country campsites. Privately owned rentals inside the park can be found in Wawona.
Near the gates of the Yosemite National Park, but outside its confines, you can still find more lodgings. Yosemite National Park has four gates, namely, the Arch Rock/El Portal Entrance, the Big Oak Flat Entrance on the west, the South Entrance, and the Tioga Pass Entrance on the east. There are many accommodations that you can find along these entrance routes.
You have plenty of options outside the park. However, you will have to take long drives to get to the park attractions inside.
Booking for housing outside the camp requires you to call the places individually. Unlike housing reservations inside the park, there is no central place to call outside the park and since these accommodations are not part of any hotel chains, you will have to contact individual lodging places to book your stay. Some lodgings offer discounts to members of organizations so be sure to inquire if they do offer discounts.
